BBC micro:bit

The BBC micro:bit is the lowest-friction way into electronics and coding. The board already carries an LED matrix, buttons, accelerometer, compass, microphone, speaker and radio, so several lessons need no add-on modules at all. Programming can use MakeCode blocks or MicroPython directly, letting one course scale to the ability of the class.

V2 added the microphone and speaker, so sound projects — noise metering, music, voice triggers — no longer need extra hardware. The ecosystem is large, which means more ready-made lesson plans, competition material and extension boards than any comparable platform, and that suits teachers who write their own curriculum.
