Overview

VEX 123 is a coding entry point for kindergarten and lower primary: a round robot plus physical Coder cards. Pupils slot the cards in order into the Coder and the robot runs the sequence. No screen, no accounts, no installation — appropriate for an age that cannot yet read long sentences or use a keyboard confidently.

What it actually teaches are the core ideas: sequence, repetition, conditionals and debugging. When the robot takes the wrong path, pupils go back and check the order of their cards, which is the earliest form of debugging practice. Because it is visible and physical, the abstraction becomes concrete — and the teacher does not have to solve device management first.

As pupils get older they can switch to programming on a tablet with VEXcode 123 using the same robot, then progress to VEX GO.

Frequently asked questions

Can kindergarten pupils really use this?

Yes. The Coder cards are icon-based, so understanding a command does not require reading. In practice teachers demonstrate once and pupils then work in groups.

The cards are English — can a Chinese-medium class use them?

Yes. The commands are expressed as icons with very little text, so Chinese-medium teaching is unaffected; the teacher explains verbally.

How does school procurement work?

Add the models and quantities you need to the cart and submit an enquiry. We reply with a formal quotation listing model, quantity, unit price and lead time, ready for your school's purchasing process. Tell us if you need a specific format or a three-quote comparison.
